Been busyish over the past few weeks. Helping out with the garden where I could. We got the gravel in. More photos of that to come. As mentioned in a previous post, I was going to get some websites off Andy, which I now have done. Those websites I have been busy getting setup, still am. They number more than 40 and there is a huge amount to do. The Grimsby Wargames Society website has also moved servers in the past few days, more links are being added to that too. Overdue to put more up to date photos on it which will be done in the next few weeks. To start my reappearance back on the scene, I thought I'd begin by putting up all the good/best photos that I took from all the shows I went to this year. Mainly Durham and Partizan. Doing a bit each day. Signed up to an online photo album, which can slideshow them. All I have to do is a title, description, the odd caption and upload them. Saves me some time and they look good.
Today I started with the best/good photos that I took of the Mollwitz refight from Partizan by the Wargamers who were the Battlegames crew of Henry Hyde, Stuart Asquith, John Preece, Charles S Grant Jnr and Phil Olley. Will add a link for the entire collection on the wargames site along with the usual publicity once Partizan has been fully uploaded. Next up is Bill Gaskins display game. There are some on the website but they are not the full collection. Only myself and Henry Hyde have seen the lot.
Once the show stuff has been up for a few weeks, I will return to the normal club photos. Watch this space. Click on a photo below to view the Mollwitz photos.
To those confused by the blog's name it is named after General Ulysses Grant, one of the Generals in the American Civil War. It is my blog of Wargaming at the Grimsby Wargames Society and wargaming in general including wargames shows.

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason
Still very birthdayey. In a Pink Floyd mood. So here are some more of my fave songs from the Delicate Sound of Thunder Concert. Enjoy again.
"One Slip" is not actually called that track. It is actually "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" and in the past few years have been unable to get hold of it as an MP3 so was glad when I found it on Youtube.

Happy Birthday To Me
It was my 35th Birthday today. It was a nice day. Didn't do a lot. Andy and Chris came round to do a little concreting and gave me Andy's present too. Andy bought me the box set of the 28 days later/28 weeks later zombie horror movies. Not seen the first one for ages and never seen the 2nd at all. The 2nd one only recently came out. Unfortunately my main DVD player needs replacing so reserved one online from Argos. Will pick it up tomorrow. Hope to watch them in the next few days.
Tonight I went to college. Franklin College. Last week I enrolled on a Clait Certificate for computing. It covers Access, Excel, Microsoft Word and others. Can do most of that with my eyes closed. However I will gain a more up to date and recent qualification on it from this course. I do have qualifications anyway but they are about a decade old. I know I can do this course quite easily. Some things though may catch me out despite that. There are many things that I will need to do, that I know how to do but forgotten how to do them. It will therefore also act as a refresher course. The first session went quite nicely tonight. It's also good to be out doing something new and meeting new people.
As its my Birthday, I'll put some nice music on here. Huge Queen fan even now. Decided to put on one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs on instead. Been a floyd fan for years too. The song is Learning To Fly - the live version from the Delicate Sound of Thunder Album. My fave live version of the song. Enjoy.

Update On Back Garden
It has been many days since I last posted here. We have all been busy in the back garden: myself, Karl, Chris and Sara. Karl building the walls with assistance from Chris. After Karl did his bit we all mucked in to make sure the garden got done, sorry prepared for the next stage. The next stage being removing all the soil for it soon to be replaced with gravel. For the past few days, including today, we have been digging it up and bagging it to go to the tip. It is best I let the photos I took of our progress tell the story.
On Monday I went to the club. I did not play but took photos of both games that were being played. The 2 games that were being played were a 20mm WW2 game using Rapid Fire! 2 between Andy Bruce and Mal Taylor. Mal has some of his figures and tanks in the rulebook to say the least. It was really nice to see him back after a long period away from the club. The other game was a refight of a battle from 1708, scenario taken from Miniature Wargames #112. Mark Alcock and Ron Skeet were the British whilst Paul Robinson and Tony Walmsley were the French.
Below are the photos which show the progress of the garden to date.

Rubble Removal
Up at 8.15am. There were Andy and Chris, waiting for the skip to arrive. Andy's girlfriend came later to wait also. In the meantime I waited in the front room for a knock at the door and decided to sort through my wargames magazines to see which ones I really wanted to keep. Mainly being Wargames Illustrated with issues relevant to the club, in particular, Colin and Rapid Fire!, Richard Marsh, the odd issue or two which had articles in them by Donald Featherstone.
When the skip did arrive, I helped them get all the rubble into the skip. The old wall near the alleyway was also being demolished at this time. Unfortunately while Chris was throwing some bricks into a wheelbarrow next to me, which I was then to put in another container to take to the skip, one of his bricks hit my right hand at speed. It hurt. A small wound on my index finger appeared with approximately an inch of skin being taken off it. Later I ended up going to the pharmacy at Chantry Lane looking for a plaster but ended up buying surgical tape and dressing for it.
Had to then leave them for several hours. I was really surprised when I got back by which time they had gone. They had managed to get all the rubble into the skip which was overflowing. Didn't think there'd be enough room. The bricks had arrived for the remainder of the wall building. Had waited hours for them on Saturday afternoon. See the photos below to see the result of this days work.

New Camera
Bought myself a new camera yesterday. Unfortunately my old camera - 4 Megapixel Vivitar 4345 - gave up the ghost a few days ago. It was the battery compartment not the actual camera. Some bits had fallen off the part of the battery cover that connect to the batteries hence no power could go to the camera. So bought myself a new one yesterday - Vivitar 7330, with a 3 inch LCD screen for viewing images, 3 X Optical Zoom but more importantly it is a 7 Megapixel Camera with SD card support. Getting a camera with macro lens was also important for taking photos of wargaming figures. I have always taken photos of wargames on the maximum setting for my camera and in future all wargaming pics will of course be taken at 7 MP so should capture more. In the end it cost me £80 after a little discount.
Since I got it I have taken some photos of my back garden which has been going through some changes, starting 3 weeks ago. First my mate Andy, who also owns the flat, arranged for some other mates of ours Karl and Chris to come down and knock down the west wall in the back garden before then starting to lay concrete foundations for the new wall to replace it. A week later, at the weekend, Karl then came back with Chris to build the new wall and begin laying the foundations for the rest of it. There is still some very old wall near the entrance to the alleyway at the back which we will be knocking down soon to build a new wall also. A skip will be arriving in the next few days for all the rubble to date. The area where the bricklaying has been going on is going to be turned into a driveway.
The back door has also been moved a few inches forward. Where it was previously it didn't look right. It also had some spaces between the frame and the wall which has now decreased. On the outside the brickwork was so unstable, old and rubbish basically that it was removed and replaced with new brickwork - also by Karl. I have joined in to help where I could. Of course, with a skip coming the flat has been going through a spring/summer clean, emptying it of rubbish and clutter slowly. Nearly done on that. There are some photos of the back garden improvements below - taken with my new camera.
The back garden at the moment. Notice the shed has moved forward. Huge pile of rubble on left from wall that was knocked down.

The Old Wall (right) is soon to be demolished. Looks terrible and shabby next to the new wall.
My Back Door. New bricks above it done by Karl.
Much work to be done inside and out over the next few months.
Back to Wargaming! Its the other Partizan at Newark tomorrow. Won't be able to go this time. Which reminds me...there is a lot of wargaming photos to be put up on this blog but mainly the website over the next month or so. Many overdue by several months. Photos from...
Partizan May 2007 - All the best photos that came out, showing off all the games I took photos of including Mollwitz by the War Gamers.
Durham 9th June 2007 - All photos from that show at Durham.
Club Photos taken over the past few months including the Rapid Fire! photos given to me and general games.
Steve Spence, a member of our club for a short period and one of the Durham Wargames Society, posted the photos I took of his demo game on 9th June 2007 at Durham. When you get to his website go to Wargaming, WW2 then Durham Wargames Show 2007. There you will find a small selection of the photos I sent him and took of his game. His website is at http://www.boggles.demon.co.uk/. Those photos were taken with my old 4 MP camera with tripod.
