General Grant Presents....

My first Youtube video has just been posted in the past few hours. My video (above) is the entire compilation of all the footage I took at Partizan with a few photos thrown in. However there is still to upload all the other 6 (at least) videos of each individual game to Youtube. That will be done in the next 24 hours. Once all the video has been uploaded, the photos from most of those games will appear on the blog and they are much better than the videos.

To view our channel on Youtube go here:
http://www.youtube.com/grimsbywargames

The usual publicity will follow which I have not done for several months. With the exception of some changes to the website, all other club matters will be put on hold till the Partizan party is over.

Grimsby Wargames Society Website Back Up But..

I reuploaded the website last night. The pages that display the RSS of Ebay for Wargamers and Hobby News started working again presumably because I am now on a Linux hosting package so those pages will not now be deleted or modified.

All other necessary pages that needed updating will be done in the next few days including the front page. The only thing I am concerned about at the moment is getting the website back up and running.

Please do not go to the galleries at http://www.gywargames.co.uk/pics as there is nothing there at the moment. I intend to sort that problem out in the next few days.

Am determined to exterminate them gremlins that have been plaguing me since moving the website......

Back On the Net

Today my Broadband and Telly were restored so I am now back on the net after a short absence. Of course that means I can get back to blogging the normal way and sorting out the Grimsby Wargames Society Website. Due to technical problems relating to the club galleries, the site will be temporarily down as I need to change the type of hosting for the site from Windows to Linux. It will be uploaded as soon as possible. Please do not even attempt to view the NEW galleries or the website itself until I have stated that they are back up on this blog.

Apparently Linux is supposed to be the best type of hosting anyway but I didn't know that at the time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Within the next fortnight however you can look forward to my Partizan photos appearing on this blog followed shortly after by the video footage I took at the show. Never used my digital camera to take video footage let alone edited it all, assembled it into one movie and added credits so it's a new thing for me. The finished product will be destined for Youtube and Livevideo.com. It will then reappear embedded on this blog.

Lets just say I've got plenty to get on with. The flat redecoration is estimated to last no more than 2 more weeks. Hoping to return to my other gaming nights shortly because, to be honest, I've missed not going to them.

Partizan 2008 Thoughts

Photo above is an infantryman in William of Orange's army from the crossing at the Battle of the Boyne display game by the League of Augsberg at Partizan. Taken with my main digital camera. As future posts will be concentrating on the actual games, this post is about the show which i enjoyed. Didnt have all day this time just a few hours. 5 of us came up in Dave Tuck's car and bumped into other of our club members who had made their own way up during the course of the day. I was looking for a book on german subs in WW2 which had to have certain things in it. It was for a friend and had to be something specific. Didnt find what i was looking for before i went off taking photos. The lighting wasnt great but not too bad. My favourite game of the show was The Battle of the Boyne by the League of Augsberg. Took over 150 photos at the show most which came out. Thats 3 or 4 Photos per shot. Did something slightly different this year as i took video footage also which will be released after the photos asap. Will put the photos together for each game which will be put on this blog. Watch this space .... While your looking at blogs: Paul, the grimsby mariner, has posted a Partizan report on his blog. Follow the link on the right.

Disconnected from net

With over 95% of the first half of the flat completed, the rewiring of the phone, broadband and telly began by us. It was all disconnected thursday. Unfortunately my friend was not able to finish reconnecting the cable but did reconnect the phone yesterday. It is likely that i won't be able to get on the net properly till the middle of next week. Won't be able to do anything to the website till then. Am blogging this from my phone. The photo above is of my newly redecorated middle room.
Later today i will upload photos from mondays game to the phone and blog them. Its partizan tomorrow and intend to blog from there amongst other things.

Website Back Up (but it's not happy)

Hi all,

Glad to tell you that the Grimsby Wargames Society Website is now back up. Sorry it was down for a day. Turned out that even after it had transferred, it was pointed at the wrong servers so I could not upload the site. That was after contacting technical support about it. Once the servers were corrected, the site went back up as fast as I could do it.

Doing that however exposed some other unexpected bugs or gremlins in the works. For the time being till the code is sorted out the pages that show the RSS of Hobby News and Ebay for Wargamers will be taken down. Decided to remove our present guestbook too which hasnt been used in a while anyway and get a better one.

Biggest problem may be our coppermine gallery. Although the database was saved along with all photos up to 3 May 2008 (would have backed up Tuesday again hours before expected transfer), there is a slim chance that such things as logins etc may be lost. Am hoping they aren't but it is possible. Thought it only fair to warn you.

Some pages need updating anyway such as the Front page to change the photo. Maybe one of Joe Dunn's this time. As soon as I can the page for the Tuesday Night Gamers needs updating also along with some more photos recently taken of some of their games.

Talking of gremlins...

Website Temporarily Down

Sorry folks, the Grimsby Wargames Society Official Website is temporarily down. Having found out what was taking the transfer to another webhost so long, I had instructed my then provider to make the change which they did. I got up this morning and found to my surprise that the Grimsby Wargames Society Website et al had already transferred to my new web host. Had not expected it so quickly. Was hoping for a smooth transition.

The Grimsby Wargames Society Website should be up again soon.
Will post again when it is back up.

Operation Goodwood at Triples 2008

Today I also found that Mark Piper had uploaded one of his revised Rapid Fire! scenarios to his website. So what you may ask? It is the scenario that was used at this year's Triples by the Derby Wargames Society. It is revised because Mark was good enough to put in some of my photos of the game in the revised scenario which can be found at:

http://www.worldoptions.com.au/fourpipers/rapid/brasrf2.pdf

All the details of the Triples 2008 game can be found within the pdf. Thanks to Mark for using my photos again.

Awi game at the club

Wargames at the Club 12th May 2008

Hi all,

Here is a short report of the games at the club last Monday. There were 2 Napoleonic games going on:

15mm between Mark Alcock as the Wurtembergers (you won't find them in Macdonalds) and Paul Robinson as the Austrians;
Andy Hamilton and Steve Mercer playing Naval Napoleonics with the Close Signal Action rules.

As usual, here are a few photos:

The mighty Andy Hamilton surveys the battlefield hoping the tide will turn in his favour.

Some close ups of the ships.

Looking at the center of the battlefield in the 15mm Napoleonic game between Mark's Wurtembergers and Paul's Austrians. The Austrians are on the left side of the photo.

A rather large Melee on the hill.

Apology to Club Members

First I must make a small apology to club members. There are still some posts I just have not done yet but I haven't forgotten. They will go up in the next few weeks. The posts are:

2 Recent games of Rapid Fire! that have taken place;
The final part of the Eastern Front game that took place at Dave Tuck's house, which also includes some good photos of Martin Buck's scenery.

There are my photos of Front Rank figures to go up but that's more like an extra.

My concentration and focus (except on my camera) has not been what it was recently. Other than some financial difficulties which have kept me a little preoccupied whilst trying to resolve them since I lost my job, my flat is also being entirely redecorated. Both circumstances are related. The redecoration started several weeks ago and is still not finished. Had to dismantle and rebuild the PC a few times. Half the flat is nearly done. New furniture has been ordered which has yet to arrive otherwise I have very little of it. "Essentials" such as TV and Broadband have been up and running though I have to switch between them if I want to use either. All my own other personal stuff is in a massive pile on the floor in my bedroom so I have to dig for anything I need. The flat basically has been turned upside down so it's a bit chaotic. Been helping with the redecoration which has meant not been able to come down to the club on some other days of the week except Mondays. Business should resume as normal in a few weeks.

Because of my financial difficulties it has affected my website hosting package. I have lots of other websites in this package which also includes the Grimsby Wargames Society website. All I am in the midst of changing providers and web servers. Moving servers mainly down to wanting to change my payment method and the type of package. It should be a smooth transition. I moved the Grimsby Wargames Society Website last September. Doubt anyone noticed. I am aiming for another smooth transition.

This chaotic phase will be over soon so some understanding would be appreciated. If I get anything wrong on the blog, get something mixed up or miss something out altogether, please let me know ASAP.

Will be at the club tonight to take some more pics etc. Not been for a fortnight.

Wargames at the Club 28th April 2008

Hello to all you happy cheerful wargamers. Been a while since I posted some games from the club on the blog. Guess that nice sunny weather got to me. Good. Shame I didn't get a tan.

Here is my ever so slightly overdue update from the games at the club on Monday 28th April 2008. Note I did not go to the club on Bank Holiday Monday the week after:

There was a large WSS game going on on the large table downstairs. I arrived late to take some pics. It was meant to be a scenario based sometime in 1702. Paul Robinson was the Imperialists whilst Mark Alcock was the French. Helping Mark was Jase "Devildice" Whitfield. On Paul's side there was also Andy Sharp. Looked a great battle on the table. Think the French were winning.

Imperialists on the run?

Close up of some Imperialists

View from one corner of the games table.

Upstairs there was a game of Pulp going on. All the figures were owned, painted and based by Joe Dunn. Martin Buck and Ron Skeet were also playing.
Artizan's Thrilling Tales rules were used.

Another view of these excellent figures

Ron was using these figures

Martin was using these figures

Close up of the figures Martin was using. Unfortunately Martin did not do so well.

Overview of the Artizan Thrilling Tales game. That night I was playing with the ISO settings on my camera, which didn't quite work out. Several of the photos on this blog had to be brightened up a little, which I hate doing. Since then however I have found settings on my camera which I will continue to use for optimal results - lighting included.
