Triples 2010: Re-Enactment Groups

There were several re-enactment groups at Triples this year. While having nothing against the groups in the past, thought it was time I paid more attention to them. In their particular uniforms, with their stands behind them, those in full costume looked very smart.

You may notice that those featured above, with the exception of The Thomas Stanley Retinue, are Napoleonics Re-enactment groups.

Le Garde Imperiale is based in the UK and France and open to all. They do small skirmishes, large battalion formed battles, a public drill display, seminars, concerts, TV work etc and in 2006 were involved with film work for the BBC and Chester University.

21 eme Regiment de Ligne otherwise known as The 21st Regiment of the Line, is one of Emperor Napoleon’s elite line Regiments and recreates its history from 1812 to 1815.

The Thomas Stanley Retinue are a Medieval Re-enactment group who specialise in the recreation of the Wars of the Roses. They also demonstrate combat techniques of the period including hand and pole weapons, black powder, archery and cavalry.

On a final note the 21st Regiment of the Line are will be leaving for the Waterloo Battlefield on June 16th 2010. The Regiment will also be taking part in a re-enactment of the battle for Plancenoit and camping on the Waterloo battlefield itself. Everyone welcome. Cost of the trip is £150. Shiver me Timbers! Its them thar pirates and a 7 years war game!

On the 8th February 2010, the last time I entered the Grimsby Wargames Society premises, there were just 2 games going on: A Seven Years wargame using the Black Powder rules and a pirate game between a pair of old sea dogs. Arrrrr!!
  A Busy night at the Grimsby Wargames Society. Well, busy as in there were   plenty of people about.




The 7 years wargame using the Black Powder rules from Warlord Games. Playing in this game were Ron Skeet, Dave Tuck, Steve Mercer and Mal Johnston.

Wars of the Roses, Anglo-Dutch Wars and Colonials 1st February 2010

Colonials: Myself and Dave Hewins were the fuzzie-wuzzies while Tim Smith and Dave Tuck were the British. On this photo some of my fuzzie-wuzzies had gone straight on to attack Tim's soldiers who had only just started moving. However my little band of fuzzie-wuzzies found themselves right in front of one of Tim's field guns.

Here the British move up with their attack and head for us fuzzie-wuzzies. You can see Tim on the left with Dave T minus head on the right.

The objective of this game was for the British to get to the well. They did not and so lost the game just in time for tiffin.

The Colonial game was played using the Black Powder rules from Warlord Games.
