To those confused by the blog's name it is named after General Ulysses Grant, one of the Generals in the American Civil War. It is my blog of Wargaming at the Grimsby Wargames Society and wargaming in general including wargames shows.

Wargames 2nd March 2009
A strange mix for this post: Indians, World War 2 and War of the Spanish Succession but thankfully not all on the table. That would be pure science fiction.
Mike Barnatt (left) and John Ogden (right) playing with their Indians. This battle was set in the midst of an Indian Civil War.
Mike Barnatt's homemade fort.
Some of Oggies forces on top of elephants, I think. Hang on I'll make a trunk call...
A game of Rapid Fire! Playing here are our Newcomers Rob and Dave plus Mal Taylor and Andy Hamilton whose forces are being used.
Some Britsh Transport and Infantry in the RF game.
The Germans taking a bit of a pounding in this game.
The setting for another big game of War of the Spanish Succession between Mark Alcock and Paul Robinson.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but these are Paul's French Chasseurs.
Mark's Austrian Dragoons.
Melee between Horsebacked Soldiers.
This Blog is 2 and Wargames 16th Feb 2009
It's been around a month since I mentioned anything wargamy so sorry for that. On the 22nd March 2009 this blog was exactly 2 years old. So thank you to everybody who has been reading this blog for the past 2 years. Your support is appreciated.
Overdue now is my mini report of the Wargames from 16th Feb 2009, so here we go:
Paul Robinson, the grimsby mariner, was playing a game with his son using the Ultra Simple Skirmish Rules from Bolt Action Miniatures. These are the Americans.
Stand off at the Farmhouse using the Ultra Simple Skirmish Rules.
Dave and Rob were playing a small game of Rapid Fire!
Mal Taylor (left) playing 15mm SYW with Tony Walmsley (right). Tony is Prussian, Mal is French.
Mark Alcock and John Ogden playing 15mm Napoleonics. John (right) is Russian whilst Mark is French.
Here follows several photos of the WW2 Blitzkrieg Commander game that took place. Steve Mercer as the Russians with Mike Barnatt and Dave Tuck as the Germans.
Russians lie in wait for the German Tanks.
Steve Mercer's troops come on.
The Scenario was simple: The Germans had to get from one side of the table to the other - through the opposition of course.
This tank and infantry of Dave Tuck's are dressed for Winter.
This group of German Tanks look intimidating as they go down the table.
Close up of Steve Mercer's Infantry.
The German Convoy comes down the table. Now that's what I call a convoy...
That's Martin Buck in the background overseeing proceedings.

Magic The Gathering Tournament at Lincoln 21st March 2009
The tournament was organised by Chris Allsopp of http://www.definitivegames.co.uk/ who organises and runs Magic tournaments regularly.
The Venue is St Andrews Church Hall, just off St Martin's square near the Kind bar. The Kind bar is at the bottom of Steep Hill and on the High Street, Lincoln.
The 2 tables at the forefront are the games in which the top 8 were competing. On the bottom right you can see our own Mark Pinder who runs Magic on Wednesday nights at the Grimsby Wargames Society. In the white hooded top is Mike Hockney, another grimsby regular. On the table behind him is Tom Duignan who also plays regularly at Grimsby. Tom is the one looking at the camera...
All are excellent Magic players. Many Grimsby regulars attend tournaments in the region. Magic Tournaments are also held at Comic Culture in the Mall, just round the corner from St Andrews Church Hall.
Magic the Gathering is played at the Grimsby Wargames Society every Wednesday night from 7pm. Mark Pinder holds tournaments on a regular basis at the club. For more info on the game goto http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Default.aspx?regionset=true
Bought myself some rares as well as some good common and uncommons that day and have since redone my deck. Actually have come up with a new idea to improve upon it but may have to chase a few more cards to help bring it about.

Comic Relief 2009
Comic Relief has come round again. This photo is of me getting into the spirit of it wearing my nose which I picked weeks ago and a santa hat. What are you do wearing a santa hat you ask? Well, it's red just like the nose. I'm not rudolf the red nose reindeer's stunt double. As for the photo, I didn't mean to scare you. To put it bluntly, I know I'm about as photogenic as a baboon's arse but I just don't give a monkeys.
Hopefully you'll be doing what I'm doing tonight which is watching Comic Relief live on BBC1. I will be making a donation out of some unexpected tax credits that are coming my way soon. It is possible to still donate after the live event. For more info, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday

Just Dropped in To Let You Know I'm Still Alive...
Yup. That's right. I'm still alive. As you might have guessed from this post....but not the blog.
Several weeks have passed by since I last posted. There have been many things on this blog that I have been meaning to do but not quite managed to do it. I have temporarily called a halt to my Monday night visits to the club till I have caught up properly.
Having said that there is much to look forward to on this blog in the next few weeks and I am determined that everything will be brought up to date, such as:
Wargames at the Club from nights 16th Feb and 2nd March;
Photos taken at the club on Tuesday nights with the Great Grimsby Gaming Group which includes photos of some of their Warhammer figures;
The remainder of my Vapnartak coverage with Youtube videos
and on March 22nd 2009 this blog will be exactly 2 years old! On that day I will announce my wargaming plans for the next year.
