My trip to Lincoln Recap

As anyone who's been following my tweets will be able to tell you, I went to Lincoln today on the train and back.

The picture shows all my spoils of the day except a pack of sandalwood incense I bought at a shop inside the Lawns grounds. The main reason for going was to buy all that Magic the Gathering product you see pictured on the left which was a booster box and fat pack. Bought myself a new deck box for the new deck I'm planning, which will mostly be made up of cards out of this latest set.

On my travels I took loads of photos which I will put up in the next few weeks. They all came out very well. Went to the Museum of Lincolnshire Life (though took no pics, just the outside), Lincoln Castle - but did not feel like walking round the walls today so will do that another time and missed one building out inside the castle walls. Explored everywhere else inside the Castle though. Went to Lincoln Cathedral but only entered the Minster Yard on this occasion. Things I didn't do on this trip I will do on my next one. It was a really nice warm day with the sun shining and a light blue sky. Had a really nice day.

The other items you see in the photo above are Pamphlets about World War 1 Tanks and a book I decided to buy on the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. The book is called The Poachers - The History of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment 1685 - 1969. I bought it out of interest at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life after seeing the exhibition on the Regiment. The museum was great with my favourites parts being the exhibition on the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment and seeing this MKIV tank called 'Flirt' in the transport section of the site. Apparently the Tank was invented in Lincoln. This one had seen action in November 1917 and had been loaned to the Museum in the 80's by the Bovington Tank Museum.

Even if I had seen more of the attractions at Lincoln there are still more attractions to be seen at Lincoln anyway so they are planned for the future.

Easter Magic the Gathering Tournament 11th April 2009

On Saturday 11th April 2009, the day before Easter, we had our now annual Easter Magic the Gathering Tournament at the Grimsby Wargames Society ran by Mark Pinder.

Some more of the players deep in game play.

James Richie (left) battling it out with Mike Hockney (right). Note the tokens on Mike's lands.

Some of the players playing in the last round.

Chris Davies (left) battling with Phil Birkett (in middle in t-shirt) for 1st and 2nd place in the tournament. The winner of this game would be 1st place.

Sadly in the last round I got a bye so was unable to play anybody.

I did not do as well as I had playing at the Standard Tournament at the club a few days earlier.

The Final Results. Thanks to Mark Pinder for supplying them (Table by me).

The Winner received a Nicol Bolas deck box with matching sleeves, Promo Foil Path to Exile and an Easter Egg which was split between the Winners. Note that Chris and Phil tied.

Myself I received a Foiled Cenn's Heir and a Lorywn Booster.

Magic The Gathering Tournament at Lincoln 21st March 2009

Before I carry on with all my usual blog business here are a few photos I took at the Magic the Gathering Tournament at Lincoln on March 21st 2009. They are better than the ones on my mobile and hopefully give a better idea of attendance and the venue.

The tournament was organised by Chris Allsopp of http://www.definitivegames.co.uk/ who organises and runs Magic tournaments regularly.

Here's Chris Allsopp (near the till) doing a bit of business with his display also.

The Venue is St Andrews Church Hall, just off St Martin's square near the Kind bar. The Kind bar is at the bottom of Steep Hill and on the High Street, Lincoln.

There were 28 players in all. At this point the top 8 players in the tourny were having a competition of their own.
The 2 tables at the forefront are the games in which the top 8 were competing. On the bottom right you can see our own Mark Pinder who runs Magic on Wednesday nights at the Grimsby Wargames Society. In the white hooded top is Mike Hockney, another grimsby regular. On the table behind him is Tom Duignan who also plays regularly at Grimsby. Tom is the one looking at the camera...

All are excellent Magic players. Many Grimsby regulars attend tournaments in the region. Magic Tournaments are also held at Comic Culture in the Mall, just round the corner from St Andrews Church Hall.

Magic the Gathering is played at the Grimsby Wargames Society every Wednesday night from 7pm. Mark Pinder holds tournaments on a regular basis at the club. For more info on the game goto http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Default.aspx?regionset=true

Bought myself some rares as well as some good common and uncommons that day and have since redone my deck. Actually have come up with a new idea to improve upon it but may have to chase a few more cards to help bring it about.

Got a Lift to Triples after all!

Whilst I was at the club last night playing Magic: The Gathering as usual, I talked to Mal Taylor who was building the WW1 Terrain with Andy Hamilton. Mal has now been good enough to give me a lift to Triples on Saturday for the day. The car will be full up.

As I said before I will be blogging in real-time from the wargames show with my phone.

I intend to update you all on the WW1 Terrain building before the weekend. Photos showing the terrain were taken by me last Monday 3rd March, Wednesday 5th March and last night.

WW1 Terrain Update

Another update for you regarding the terrain. Since last post not only have the boards changed colour again, they have begun to be textured. Some photos were taken by me on the night of Wednesday February 27th 2008 after playing some games of Magic: The Gathering at the club. I started playing Magic: The Gathering regularly at the club a few months back.

In the early hours of February 27th the 5.2 earthquake struck, the resulting tremor had been felt all across the UK making it the UK's biggest quake for about 25 years. Epicentre was near Ludford near Market Rasen, approx 15-20 miles down the road from us.

All these photos were taken using my mobile on macro mode. Bet you wouldn't have guessed that if I hadn't told you.

Shot of the terrain boards after they had been worked on by Mal Taylor and Andy Hamilton that night.

Birds eye view of one of the boards.

Close up view of one of the trenches.

Last but not least it appeared that since my previous update the HMS Malandy had been painted with the end added on. Painted by Andy Hamilton.
