Easter Magic the Gathering Tournament 11th April 2009

On Saturday 11th April 2009, the day before Easter, we had our now annual Easter Magic the Gathering Tournament at the Grimsby Wargames Society ran by Mark Pinder.

Some more of the players deep in game play.

James Richie (left) battling it out with Mike Hockney (right). Note the tokens on Mike's lands.

Some of the players playing in the last round.

Chris Davies (left) battling with Phil Birkett (in middle in t-shirt) for 1st and 2nd place in the tournament. The winner of this game would be 1st place.

Sadly in the last round I got a bye so was unable to play anybody.

I did not do as well as I had playing at the Standard Tournament at the club a few days earlier.

The Final Results. Thanks to Mark Pinder for supplying them (Table by me).

The Winner received a Nicol Bolas deck box with matching sleeves, Promo Foil Path to Exile and an Easter Egg which was split between the Winners. Note that Chris and Phil tied.

Myself I received a Foiled Cenn's Heir and a Lorywn Booster.

Great Grimsby Gaming Group: Star Wars RPG

Along with many other games that are played on Tuesday nights are the RPG's that are arranged by the players. For those who do not know RPG stands for Roleplaying Game.

On this particular night the players were developing their characters for the Star Wars RPG and casting dice to help them do so.

The Millenium Falcon. This lovely model belongs to Robin, one of the players.

This is a troop transport. Also owned by Robin. Apparently it was originally a Deep Space 9 Runabout which was modified.

Great Grimsby Gaming Group: Board Games

Board Games such as these are played on Tuesday nights. Everyone welcome. Just turn up, pay your subs for the door which is £1.50 for the night - unless it's your first time. Find the other players and join in.

Usually those who play the Board Games also own them and are good enough to let people join in. Members who bring Board Games are Mark Alcock, Mike Clarke and Stuart Motley.
Depending on how the evening goes several board games are quite often played in succession so if you miss one you may be able to join in on another one later.
While nothing to do with the Great Grimsby Gaming Group Board Games are also played at the Grimsby Wargames Society on Thursday nights from 7pm for everybody to join in with the same members bringing games.

Wargames at Club 6th April 2009

Only 2 games were played that night: Rapid Fire! WW2 Eastern Front and a huge game of Wars of the Roses. I was able to join in the Wars of the Roses game.

Up first is the Rapid Fire! game between Rob and Mike Barnatt.

Mike was Russian using his own figures and vehicles while Rob was German with his own figures.

Mike however had air superiority. Only the plane in the middle was being used. The Shturmovich.

The Scenario was:
The Russians attack the Germans but first must cross the river and establish a Bridgehead...

BIG GAME OF WARS OF THE ROSES.

Playing on the Lancastrians side (on the left) were: James (One of our newcomers) with his son, Mark Alcock, Paul Robinson with his son James. Mark and Paul supplied the troops.

On the Yorkists side were:
Myself, Dave Tuck and Dave Hewins. Most of the troops were supplied by Dave T though Dave H did put some of his "Stanleys" on the table, which he mainly played with.

As the game begins the Yorkists begin their attack heading straight for the middle of the table.

I was facing James (not paul's son) across the table. Here mine and his troops finally get close. My troops were cautious and did not move that much during the course of the game.

By this time I was taking casualties. Things had started off ok at my end of the table but gradually got worse as the game progressed.

This Jumble is mine and James' troops in Melee.

The rest of the battle for the Yorkists was not going too well either. Mark's Troops had attacked and here they were assaulting our artillery which they took quite easily.

In the end the Yorkists lost. Actually all the troops on the table were technically Lancastrians and only called ourselves Yorkist cos we lost!!

Back to the Rapid Fire! game...

Here we are at the end of the game. Mike had managed to get troops into the water and had began building a bridge but not managed to make a bridgehead. Russian troops on one side of the river attacking the other side.

Even some of Rob's Awesome German tanks had taken a battering.

Mike's Russian Infantry trying to cross the River whilst a German tank lies in wait..

Wargames at Club 30th March 2009

4 games went on last Monday night at the Club:

Anglo-Dutch Wars. Nice to see these lovely ships on the big table downstairs.

The English Fleet is on the left (not the Royal Navy) with the Dutch on the right.

Slightly more close up on the English Fleet.

The Dutch.

Playing in this game were:
Dave Tuck on the English side assisting Andy Hamilton; On the Dutch side were Dave Hewins and Steve Mercer. The ships belonged to Steve Mercer and Andy Hamilton.

One of Mal Taylor's British tanks.

This was a small game using the Rapid Fire! rules. Playing in it were Mal Taylor, Rob and Dave "Pod" Hodson. All figures and vehicles belonged to Mal Taylor. Mal was playing British with Dave "Pod" Hodson, who were attacking a small town occupied by the Germans. Rob was playing as the Germans.

Mike Barnatt (on right) with James, one of our newcomers, deep in thought in their 6mm Ancients game of Romans v Pontus.

One of Mike Barnatt's homemade buildings. This one looks like a roman courtyard.

A "close-up" of the 6mm Ancients game.

WW1 game between the Germans and British. The British are occupying the town. Playing were Mark Alcock, Paul Robinson and John Ogden. These Germans belong to Mark Alcock.

Paul Robinson's Germans swooping down on the town.
