And Then There Were Three

Steve Walker was also there on another table as he had brought his 15mm WW2 Germans and Romans along for Malc Johnston to do a photoshoot for the new “Official” club website at http://grimsbywargamessociety.webs.com

Malc unfortunately could not make it that night. Steve however didnt mind myeslf taking some photos of his figures. His photos will be my next post……

Rapid Fire! game 20th September 2010

SL375715

Andy Hamilton and Mal Taylor played a Rapid Fire! game. All the figures and vehicles in this game were owned by Mal Taylor who also set the scenario.

The scenario was that the Germans had to keep the road open so that their troops could withdraw down that route. In this game Andy was the Germans. To begin with Andy had a few companies of Germans.

SL375703Mal then sent in his paratroopers using those famous gliders of his. Mal’s gliders have been in the Rapid Fire! books as well as having been to many a wargames show such as the shows at Bovington Tank Museum.

As you can see 4 of Mal’s Gliders were in use in this game. Things were not going well for Andy, however, he was allowed reinforcements……

SL375775

In the form of Panzer Grenadiers which appeared at the top of the road (nearest the wall) before dismounting them to attack the bridge.

Andy was determined to retake the Bridge….

SL375805

Andy also had some Recce units come on shortly after the Panzer Grenadiers.

Sadly, as time was getting on, I did not see the final result of the game though it was highly unlikely that Andy won. He certainly put up quite a fight in order to try to achieve his objective.

SL375781

The Gliders were not the only aircraft in this game. There was the Dakota Bomber (see left) and a Typhoon also in use.

Click on the thumbnails below to see a few more photos of this game.

The Other Partizan 2010: Ardennes 1944

SL375479

One of the best displays in the show was this Ardennes Recreation, due to the way its wonderful snowy terrain had been created.

It looked really impressive on the day. The Germans were attacking from the River (left) whilst some US Paratroopers were occupying the buildings next to it. Allied forces had been despatched to stop them.

All the figures used in this display were by 1st Corps

Pre-Christmas 2009 Wargames Me Hearties!

Here's a quick rundown of all the Pre-Christmas 2009 Wargames at the club on 21st December 2009 with lots of pics. First up the Napoleonics game between Mark Alcock and John Ogden - Photos above and below.

WW2 game using the Blitzkrieg Commander rules. Tim Mercer as the Americans with Dave Tuck as the Germans with Martin Buck assisting Dave for a short while. More photos below....

Finally a shot of Tim Mercer's WW2 Americans marching towards the Germans.

The Pirate Game with Andy Hamilton, Mal Taylor, Tony Walmsley and Mike Barnatt, each having 3 ships.

These were Mike Barnatt's ships.

Thats Mal Taylor on the left in deep concentration with Andy Hamilton on the right in festive mood wearing the Santa hat!

This photo and the one below are close ups of Mal Taylor's Pirate Ships. Shiver me timbers you old sea dogs! Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Wargames 23rd November 2009

It was one of those nights which had a few games on.

A 15mm Napoleonic game between the Prussians and French. The Prussians on the left belong to John Ogden while the French on the right belong to Mark Alcock.

A WSS Game between Mike Barnatt's Tecklenbergers (on the left) or Andy Hamilton's Austrians (on the right). Andy Hamilton was also assisted by Mal Taylor.

Both sides in the WSS Game begin to move to the center of the action...

The Tecklenbergers (or Cheeseburgers as i sometimes call them) do battle with the Austrians mid-table. In the end the Tecklenbergers won.

These 2 photos (above) and the 1 below were taken using my digital camera by our own Martin Buck and are of the WW2 Desert game using the Blitzkrieg Commander rules on the big table downstairs.

Playing in this game were Dave Tuck, Steve Mercer, Myself, Malcolm and Ron Skeet. Steve Mercer, using his own army, was the British. He was outnumbered by the rest of us playing as the Italians except for Ron who was playing as the Germans. All German and Italian armies belonged to Dave Tuck.

As my dice throwing had been really bad by throwing unusually high dice - well for me anyway - it meant my force - these M13/40 Italian Tanks - did not even move till about 9pm. Unfortunately they then didnt move for the rest of the game either.

How it looked at the end of the game.

These Italian Infantry are standard infantry. They are in fact Bersagleri. And are Dave Tuck's.

Wargames at Club 12th October 2009

A couple of nice games last week. Here's my usual rundown with lots of pics this time.
A Renaissance game between the Imperialists and the French. The Imperialists are on the left of the photo.

On the Imperialists side were John Ogden and Mark Alcock while the French were Dave Tuck and Jason Whitfield using Dave's forces.

A melee between the French and Imperialists.

Thats our own Tony Walmsley looking on. A World War 2 game is about to played on this spectacular terrain..

A 15mm Rapid Fire! game is about to be played. The terrain belongs to Andy Hamilton, which he built 15 years ago and which had been in his false roof ever since until recently. Most - but not all - of the buildings on this terrain were scratch-built by Andy Hamilton also. All the figures involved in this game are also Andy Hamilton's, who also umpired this game.

Playing as the Germans were Mal Taylor and Tim while Mike Barnatt was playing as the French.

A view of some of the French defenses.

The Germans begin crossing the canal as the attack begins.

An aerial view of the game. You can see more of the German forces on the other side of the river.
