The Other Partizan 2010: Heated Exchange

SL375507

In this Heated Exchange Scenario, presented by Paul Darnell of Touching History at http://touchinghistory.blogspot.com, the town of Olite is being held by Sharpe’s 95th rifles and a small horde of Spanish Guerillas who are defending the bridge.

For this demo game Paul Darnell was ably supported by Ed (in the blue checked shirt), who is also another blogger. His blogger profile is here. His other blogs can be found here: http://modelmacedonianarmy.blogspot.com/  http://blackpowdergaming.blogspot.com/ and http://modelromanarmy.blogspot.com/.

Ed’s own report of the demo game he helped put on with Paul Darnell can be found at his Black Powder gaming blog here.

Personally I really liked the terrain and was quite impressed with the actual figures. The Buildings were really nice too. More information on the scenario can be found on The Touching History blog post Watch out the Spanish are about. Click here to read Paul Darnell’s Partizan report of the demo game. In the past I have been aware of The Touching History site and their games but perhaps not given them the attention they deserved. In future I will do.

Below are some of my photos from the Touching History game:

The Other Partizan 2010: Kings of the Sun

SL375488

This game was one of the most interesting and colourful at Partizan. The figures and buildings, especially the pyramids, were brilliant. The period was slightly unusual.

Kings of the Sun tells the saga of Mayan refugees in search of settlement. After experiencing savage defeat in battle the leaders of an ancient mayan tribe decide to escape across the Gulf of Mexico to build a new community on the coast. However the land they have chosen as their home has already been claimed by a hostile tribe of Native Americans and their enigmatic leader Black Eagle, who refuses to withstand intruders.

This game was put on by The Bunker at http://www.thebunkergames.com which, at its Bunker Wargame Holiday Centre regularly puts on wargames events and is now offering single wargaming sessions.

The Other Partizan 2010: Ardennes 1944

SL375479

One of the best displays in the show was this Ardennes Recreation, due to the way its wonderful snowy terrain had been created.

It looked really impressive on the day. The Germans were attacking from the River (left) whilst some US Paratroopers were occupying the buildings next to it. Allied forces had been despatched to stop them.

All the figures used in this display were by 1st Corps

The Other Partizan 2010: Leignitz – April 9th 1241, The Mongols vs The Poles

SL375459

To my knowledge it is not the first occasion that Curteys Miniatures have put on a display at a Wargames show using their Mongols. Nevertheless their figures were nice to see again.

The scenario was Leignitz – April 9th 1241 which was written by John Bianchi. Figures supplied by Curteys Miniatures. Figures painted by Phil Turner, Shaun Bryant and Simon and Michael Curtis.

Flags by Fluttering Flags. Mongol Gurs by Grand Manner.

Although I liked their Mongol figures, I found the colour and detail of the Poles really caught my eye. Here are a few more photos of the game:

The Other Partizan & Bingley Music Live

Sorry Folks. I realise there has been no posting on here since just before Cleethorpes Rocks. My mind has been on another things. Nothing serious, it's just my mind hasn't set on it. Will try to upload some Cleethorpes Rocks photos this weekend.

This weekend I will be at Bradford and Bingley as am going to see the Zutons and others at Bingley Music Live tomorrow. Will be staying in Bradford overnight and coming back around 7pm on Sunday so will not even be thinking about going to the other Partizan which is also this sunday. Yes, I haven't uploaded those pics yet either. My blog is a little behind. The most active thing has been my tweets.

Thought I should at least drop in and explain why it's been so quiet on here. Am leaving Grimsby at 0700 tomorrow for Bradford on what will be a 3 hour trip to get there. Will of course be taking photos. Aim to post some Cleethorpes Rocks pics on here before I hit the sack tonight and when I return on Sunday.

The Other Partizan 2008: The Edge of Bautzen 1813

This game focusing on The Edge of Bautzen 1813 was put on by The Old Sergeants Mess. Set in 1813 the idea is that Napoleon's forces set out to destroy the Russian and Prussian combined forces and off to Bautzen they went. The demonstration focuses on the events of 20th May.

These photos were the first photos taken of the day. They got better as time went on...Some video footage was also taken and will appear soon.

The Other Partizan 2008: Ligny 1815

My favourite game of the show at The Other Partizan. The Battle of Ligny, June 16th, 1815 put on display by The League of Gentleman Wargamers. The League of Gentleman Wargamers are part of the League of Augsburg. The terrain for this game was made by Adrian Howe. The figures are all from the collections of Kevin Calder, Peter Nicholson, Adrian Howe, Peter McCaroll, Barry Hilton and David Imrie who are all members of the League. Other members of the LOGW are Dale Smith, Colin Jack, Dave O'Brien, Brigadier Charles S Grant, Andrew Nicholson, Andrew Thomson, Steve Shaw and Angus Konstam. The rules used for this game were Republic to Empire by Barry Hilton.

The game was covered in detail with great photos (not by me) in a recent issue of Battlegames.

As always the figures and game by the LOGW as well as The League of Augsburg are excellent and recommend anyone going to see their games.

There is a little video footage to come. It's the closest to seeing it "live".

The Other Partizan 2008: Perry's 1st Carlist War

Last year I accidentally misplaced some of my photos from The Other Partizan 2008 on September 7th 2008. Here is just one set of them from the Perry's 1st Carlist War display game. There are more photos to come from other games.

Some monks in the nearby Monastery.

A close up of some Cavalry.

Richard Tyndall of Newark Irregulars took a shot similar to this before I took mine. Was stood next to him at the time.

Some video footage of this game was taken. It will reappear later.

Partizan 2008: The Forgotten Bits

While looking through the blog and poking about my hard drive, I realised there were a large group of photos that have not yet seen the light of day. Being somewhat distracted with one thing or another recently has meant that only half my photos from The Other Partizan 2008 had been put up with the other half yet to come.

It will be rectified in the next few weeks. The remaining photos still have not yet been sorted out. Here are a few appetisers in the meantime:

1st Carlist War by Perry Miniatures.

Ligny 1815 by the League of Gentlemen Wargamers.

The Other Partizan 2008: Operation Goodwood (The Battle for Bras)

Operation Goodwood: The Battle for Bras (18th July 1944) was put on by the Derby Wargames Society again, this time at The Other Partizan on 7th September 2008. It was the same game they had put on at Triples 2008. All the details regarding who made what etc can be found on Mark Piper's Rapid Fire! site. Download/view the scenario here (pdf).

It also gave me another opportunity to take some more photos of the game without having to worry about the annoying orange glow of the Octagon at Triples.

Okay So I might have a got little carried away with my photo taking...It was such a nice display.

The Other Partizan 2008: Smoke Signals Over The Hills

This nice looking game by the Bramley Barn Wargamers included an indian settlement, a cave dwelling, indians dancing around a fire (the smoke signals?), another settlement, plenty of people on horseback and a stagecoach. All on desert terrain.

And just below there's a little bit of video....

The Other Partizan 2008: 28mm Trench Warfare, Somme 1918

The Coltishall Cowards put on an impressive display at this Partizan. The trenches, terrain and figures were very well done. Loads of detail on the boards. Brilliant display. Reminded me a little of the Grimsby Wargames Society own trench boards. It's just a shame I could not take any more photos when I did as my camera died on me. This was in fact the last game I photographed. I believe a great number of the figures were from Great War Miniatures.

This and the photos below were taken with my mobile.
