The Other Partizan 2008: The Edge of Bautzen 1813

This game focusing on The Edge of Bautzen 1813 was put on by The Old Sergeants Mess. Set in 1813 the idea is that Napoleon's forces set out to destroy the Russian and Prussian combined forces and off to Bautzen they went. The demonstration focuses on the events of 20th May.

These photos were the first photos taken of the day. They got better as time went on...Some video footage was also taken and will appear soon.

The Other Partizan 2008: Ligny 1815

My favourite game of the show at The Other Partizan. The Battle of Ligny, June 16th, 1815 put on display by The League of Gentleman Wargamers. The League of Gentleman Wargamers are part of the League of Augsburg. The terrain for this game was made by Adrian Howe. The figures are all from the collections of Kevin Calder, Peter Nicholson, Adrian Howe, Peter McCaroll, Barry Hilton and David Imrie who are all members of the League. Other members of the LOGW are Dale Smith, Colin Jack, Dave O'Brien, Brigadier Charles S Grant, Andrew Nicholson, Andrew Thomson, Steve Shaw and Angus Konstam. The rules used for this game were Republic to Empire by Barry Hilton.

The game was covered in detail with great photos (not by me) in a recent issue of Battlegames.

As always the figures and game by the LOGW as well as The League of Augsburg are excellent and recommend anyone going to see their games.

There is a little video footage to come. It's the closest to seeing it "live".

The Other Partizan 2008: Perry's 1st Carlist War

Last year I accidentally misplaced some of my photos from The Other Partizan 2008 on September 7th 2008. Here is just one set of them from the Perry's 1st Carlist War display game. There are more photos to come from other games.

Some monks in the nearby Monastery.

A close up of some Cavalry.

Richard Tyndall of Newark Irregulars took a shot similar to this before I took mine. Was stood next to him at the time.

Some video footage of this game was taken. It will reappear later.

Partizan 2008: The Forgotten Bits

While looking through the blog and poking about my hard drive, I realised there were a large group of photos that have not yet seen the light of day. Being somewhat distracted with one thing or another recently has meant that only half my photos from The Other Partizan 2008 had been put up with the other half yet to come.

It will be rectified in the next few weeks. The remaining photos still have not yet been sorted out. Here are a few appetisers in the meantime:

1st Carlist War by Perry Miniatures.

Ligny 1815 by the League of Gentlemen Wargamers.

The Other Partizan 2008: Operation Goodwood (The Battle for Bras)

Operation Goodwood: The Battle for Bras (18th July 1944) was put on by the Derby Wargames Society again, this time at The Other Partizan on 7th September 2008. It was the same game they had put on at Triples 2008. All the details regarding who made what etc can be found on Mark Piper's Rapid Fire! site. Download/view the scenario here (pdf).

It also gave me another opportunity to take some more photos of the game without having to worry about the annoying orange glow of the Octagon at Triples.

Okay So I might have a got little carried away with my photo taking...It was such a nice display.

The Other Partizan 2008: Smoke Signals Over The Hills

This nice looking game by the Bramley Barn Wargamers included an indian settlement, a cave dwelling, indians dancing around a fire (the smoke signals?), another settlement, plenty of people on horseback and a stagecoach. All on desert terrain.

And just below there's a little bit of video....

The Other Partizan 2008: 28mm Trench Warfare, Somme 1918

The Coltishall Cowards put on an impressive display at this Partizan. The trenches, terrain and figures were very well done. Loads of detail on the boards. Brilliant display. Reminded me a little of the Grimsby Wargames Society own trench boards. It's just a shame I could not take any more photos when I did as my camera died on me. This was in fact the last game I photographed. I believe a great number of the figures were from Great War Miniatures.

This and the photos below were taken with my mobile.

Intro to The Other Partizan 2008 Reports

On the 7th September 2008 several of our club members including myself went to The Other Partizan at Kelham Hall. As usual, photos were taken by myself. Starting from tonight those photos will be uploaded to this blog. It was a bright, warm, sunny day this time unlike in May when it was cloudy and gloomy. Even got some photos of the grounds to show how nice it was ( see left and below). They were taken with my mobile camera as by this time my main camera had died on me. These pics were taken as we were leaving.

Dazzling Sunshine as you can see. The Car Park was reasonably full.

No queue getting in. We arrived at approx 10.10am which meant we received the special figure. For The Other Partizan 2008 the figure was Harold the Hero, sculpted by Matt Bickley.

Over the next few days my photos will be posted here. Photos of 6 games were taken:

Smoke Signals Over The Hills by the Bramley Barn Wargames Club
28mm Trench Warfare Somme Spring 1918 by the Coltishall Cowards
20mm WW2 Operation Goodwood: The Battle for Bras by the Derby Wargames Society
28mm On the Edge of Bautzen by the Old Sergeants Mess
28mm 1st Carlist War by Perry Miniatures
28mm Battle of Ligny 16th June 1815 by the League of Gentlemen Wargamers

Some video footage was also taken of some of the games just as I did in May.

Wargames 1st September 2008 and The Other Partizan

There were several games at the club last week. 1 Renaissance, 1 World War One and a Rapid Fire! WW2 game. The Rapid Fire! game will be posted separately.

Before I begin though I went to The Other Partizan at Kelham Hall yesterday with Dave Tuck and Martin Buck. Bumped into a few other members while we were there. Really enjoyed it. Took photos and some video footage again. Most of the photos came out as usual. Trying a new technique for taking photos after bumping into Henry Hyde of Battlegames who himself was taking photos. During my travels I also had the pleasure of meeting Barry Hilton, who also writes for Battlegames, met David Imrie again and finally got to meet Richard Tyndall of the Newark Irregulars who was, yes you guessed it, also taking photos. Been a huge fan of Richard's photo's for years now. Talked to him a little about taking photos too. Enjoyed the show. I did like the Perry's game. It was nice to see Operation Goodwood, put on display again by the Derby Wargames Society.

First, the WW1 game on the trench boards. Paul Robinson was playing against his son James. They were all Paul's figures. James was attacking with the Doughboys while Paul was defending as the Germans.

The WW1 game on the trench boards.

Them Doughboys are approaching...

Some Entrenched Germans.

The Renaissance game. Playing were Dave Tuck, Mike Barnatt and Darren (sorry didn't catch his surname) as the French using Dave's figures. Mark Alcock and John Ogden were the Spanish.

French Soldiers under Mike's Control.

The Spanish. Think these chaps are on Knight Duty (pun intended).
