My trip to Lincoln Recap

As anyone who's been following my tweets will be able to tell you, I went to Lincoln today on the train and back.

The picture shows all my spoils of the day except a pack of sandalwood incense I bought at a shop inside the Lawns grounds. The main reason for going was to buy all that Magic the Gathering product you see pictured on the left which was a booster box and fat pack. Bought myself a new deck box for the new deck I'm planning, which will mostly be made up of cards out of this latest set.

On my travels I took loads of photos which I will put up in the next few weeks. They all came out very well. Went to the Museum of Lincolnshire Life (though took no pics, just the outside), Lincoln Castle - but did not feel like walking round the walls today so will do that another time and missed one building out inside the castle walls. Explored everywhere else inside the Castle though. Went to Lincoln Cathedral but only entered the Minster Yard on this occasion. Things I didn't do on this trip I will do on my next one. It was a really nice warm day with the sun shining and a light blue sky. Had a really nice day.

The other items you see in the photo above are Pamphlets about World War 1 Tanks and a book I decided to buy on the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. The book is called The Poachers - The History of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment 1685 - 1969. I bought it out of interest at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life after seeing the exhibition on the Regiment. The museum was great with my favourites parts being the exhibition on the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment and seeing this MKIV tank called 'Flirt' in the transport section of the site. Apparently the Tank was invented in Lincoln. This one had seen action in November 1917 and had been loaned to the Museum in the 80's by the Bovington Tank Museum.

Even if I had seen more of the attractions at Lincoln there are still more attractions to be seen at Lincoln anyway so they are planned for the future.

I've been Tweeting!

Yep. Finally caught the twitter bug. It's well known that Twitter isn't quite as popular as facebook but I quite like it. Downloaded a program this afternoon which means I can "tweet" from my PC desktop. I can also twitter from my mobile phone. Only started about 2 weeks ago.

Thought it might function as a "mini-blog" on here. Anything on my mind, life in general and of course some gaming twitters I hope. My Twitter page is also linked to this blog. You can find my twitter page at:

http://twitter.com/grimsbywargames

Advantages to twitter are that you can just send a short text message about anything at any time and therefore extremely quick. Quicker than the mobile blogging I used to do which I can't do anymore as unfortunately lost that phone a few months back. The phone I am using at the moment has less capabilities.

Anyway, hope you like my tweets and will do my best to keep them interesting. The feed will always be displayed on the right on this blog. Amazingly I already have half a dozen followers.

WSS Game 13th July 2009

Just the WSS game that night: Corporal John v The Sun King (Louis XIV). An AK47 and an American Civil War game were planned to go ahead but unfortunately some players were not able to make it for those games which resulted in those games being cancelled.

There's the forces of the Sun King on the left who were commanded by Paul Robinson and his son James. On the right were the English, owned and commanded by Mark Alcock with the help of Steve Mercer.

These forces were being commanded by Paul. Note some of the Gabions near the field gun. They are just some of many that Paul has been painting up recently in preparation for his planned Refight of Malpaquet sometime in September 2009.

The game begins...

More of the English advance while there is a big Melee being fought..

Close up of the Cavalry Melee. Incidentally the final result was that the English won. For a more detailed report go to http://grimsbywargaming.blogspot.com/2009/07/war-of.html

The Relief of Vilnius and much more

In returning to the club tonight it is time I reported on my previous monday night visit. The games that night - 29th June 2009 - were WW1 and WW2.

As you can tell by the title of this post a scenario based on the Relief of Vilnius was used for one of the games, specifically the WW2 game on the big table downstairs.

Playing in this game were Dave Tuck, Steve Mercer and Tim. Dave Tuck and Tim were the Germans whilst Steve was the Russians.

That nice chap with the beard watching the game is Martin Buck.

The view from Vilnius. The scenario came from the light blue Russian Front Rapid Fire! book by Richard Marsh however the rules they were using for this game were Blitzkrieg Commander.
The Germans had to relieve Vilnius and go back again. The scenario got harder as time went by as the Russians were also getting reinforcements to fight back.

Mike Barnatt (left) and Ron Skeet (right) prepare to do battle using Blitzkrieg Commander rules. Mike as the Russians with Ron as the Germans.

Ron's Germans on the loose.

Our fantastic WW1 terrain boards before gameplay.

John Ogden (left) and Andy Hamilton (right) in deep discussion over the rules. In front of Andy are command and control sheets, to be used in conjunction with the Schwerpunkt rules. The command and control sheets for attacker and defender differ slightly.

With Paul Robinson unable to make it and therefore no Americans, the game carried on using just Mark Alcock's Germans. John Ogden using the Germans in the trenches whilst Mark Alcock and Andy Hamilton were the other attacking Germans - standing in for the Americans. All the Germans in this game belonged to Mark Alcock.
