Triples 2010: Re-Enactment Groups

There were several re-enactment groups at Triples this year. While having nothing against the groups in the past, thought it was time I paid more attention to them. In their particular uniforms, with their stands behind them, those in full costume looked very smart.

Click on the thumbnails below to enlarge.

SL374427 Le Garde Imperiale SL374428 21 eme Regiment de Ligne
SL374429 The Thomas Stanley Retinue SL374425 Medieval Combat and Archery Tourney organised by the Thomas Stanley Retinue

You may notice that those featured above, with the exception of The Thomas Stanley Retinue, are Napoleonics Re-enactment groups.

Le Garde Imperiale is based in the UK and France and open to all. They do small skirmishes, large battalion formed battles, a public drill display, seminars, concerts, TV work etc and in 2006 were involved with film work for the BBC and Chester University.

21 eme Regiment de Ligne otherwise known as The 21st Regiment of the Line, is one of Emperor Napoleon’s elite line Regiments and recreates its history from 1812 to 1815.

The Thomas Stanley Retinue are a Medieval Re-enactment group who specialise in the recreation of the Wars of the Roses. They also demonstrate combat techniques of the period including hand and pole weapons, black powder, archery and cavalry.

On a final note the 21st Regiment of the Line are will be leaving for the Waterloo Battlefield on June 16th 2010. The Regiment will also be taking part in a re-enactment of the battle for Plancenoit and camping on the Waterloo battlefield itself. Everyone welcome. Cost of the trip is £150. Subject: Sheffield Steel City Magic - 9th May - Big Prizes!

Hi, everyone.

The Eldrazi have woken up, and apparently they're not morning people.  With the new set now legal, will they break Jund's hold on standard or merely add to it?  The afternoon draft will also be triple RoE and I've got a nice healthy-looking folder so come along and get your game on.  Remember, we also have the afternoon draft and all-day Planechase casual play.  Later on this month, Patriot will also be running a nationals qualifier, so Sheffield's the place to play Magic in May.  (God that sounded cheesy, sorry.  Come to the event and I won't do that again...)

Changed Grimsby Wargames Society Website

As stated in a previous post I have changed the theme of the newly revamped Grimsby Wargames Society Website. However, some widgets now need to be added again, such as Flickr and the CSS will once again have to be modified so that it will have the same style (colors and links etc) as the previous version.

The content, which is the most important thing, remains unchanged.

Zulu! Zulu!

Next week, 26th April 2010, the Grimsby Wargames Society will be having a LARGE club game, for which all of you who are reading this are welcome to join us.

Doors open 7PM. Bring some cash for the tuck shop etc as we have soft drinks, chocolate, hot drinks and crisps available for you to munch on.

The game WILL NOT be Rorke's Drift though that will not stop me from practising my impersonation of Michael Caine's officer from the film "Zulu".

If you've never been to the Grimsby Wargames Society before or never even played with Zulu's before, all I can say is, COME ON DOWN AND GIVE IT A TRY!!

A Short Note about Triples 2010

Yesterday myself and another member of the Grimsby Wargames Society went to see the Triples Wargames Show in its new location in Sheffield. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It helped that it was blazing sunshine outside also. Was impressed with its new venue which was also easy to find and also much easier to find somewhere to park.

Unfortunately my digital camera died an hour before we left so resorted to taking some photos of games on my mobile. Pics which didnt turn out too badly. They will be posted here soon. To be honest although many games were quite nice only a few of them really caught my eye and ones which I thought the group involved had done a great job. To be fair to other groups though there were many games done in lower than 15mm, which were not to my personal taste, but done nicely all the same.

Really hope that the Sheffield Wargames Society continues to host Triples at this venue from this point onwards but would also hope that the standard of games on display improves.

Triples 2010 etc

Yes, I am going to Triples tomorrow with another member from the Grimsby Wargames Society. As usual my camera will be getting worn out taking photos of most of the games especially any games I like the look of. They will be appearing on here soon. In addition it is intended to write a small article for the main Grimsby Wargames Society Website about it, which is also my blog.

Other than the posts about Magic Tournaments I am sure you will have noticed the lack of posts about games at the club. Sadly this one has been slightly neglected while the first posts have been put on the new Grimsby Wargames Society website. You can find the most recent posts regarding games at the club on the new site at the following website addresses:

http://grimsbywargames.wordpress.com/2010/04/16/some-interesting-viewing/
http://grimsbywargames.wordpress.com/2010/04/12/weekly-dispatches-we-11th-april-2010
http://grimsbywargames.wordpress.com/2010/04/06/weekly-dispatches-we-easter-2010/ http://grimsbywargames.wordpress.com/2010/03/28/weekly-dispatches-we-28th-march-2010/ http://grimsbywargames.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/weekly-dispatches-we-21st-march-2010/

I am also considering changing the layout of the new Grimsby Wargames Society website again, mainly so the search engines can see more of the content plus other people looking at it can read more of the recent posts instead of just the latest one. The theme will have to be changed. I will keep the red/green style of the present version though. Won’t be doing it just yet as not found a theme I like to do it yet – but it will happen soon. Just warning ya.

Hope to see you at Triples in its new location this year. If you would like to read my previous article on Triples 2007 that I recently republished, look here:
