To those confused by the blog's name it is named after General Ulysses Grant, one of the Generals in the American Civil War. It is my blog of Wargaming at the Grimsby Wargames Society and wargaming in general including wargames shows.

Anyone for a Tecklenberger?
They are nice with cheese apparently. Only joking. Last monday there were 2 games: WW1 Trench Warfare and a War of the Spanish Succession game between the Austrians and Tecklenbergers.
Playing as the Germans, which belonged to Mark, were Mark Alcock and John Ogden. Playing with the Doughboys were Paul Robinson and his son James. The Doughboys belonged to Paul.
Close up of the Germans in the trenches.
Some of the Doughboys
Andy Hamilton's Austrians begin entering the Battlefield
The Austrians General coming over the bridge..
These Austrian Dragoons are really nice, aren't they?
Mike Barnatt's Tecklenbergers
A nice line of Austrian Infantry facing the Tecklenbergers at the bottom of the bridge. All of Andy Hamilton's Austrians are Front Rank.
Mike Barnatt's Tecklenbergers comprised of various makes including Spencer Smith Miniatures, Irregular Miniatures and some from Steve Mercer, other Grimsby Club member.

Michael Jackson R.I.P.
As a Michael Jackson fan I was surprised to hear the news yesterday that Michael Jackson had died although there had been some conflicting reports beforehand suggesting that he may have been in a coma when going into hospital. Eventually it was confirmed that he had died. I was watching BBC News 24 at the time just before midnight when the BBC was talking to various people who knew Michael including Uri Geller.
Whatever people think of Michael, it was his music he was best at and he was a musician after all. Having been a fan for years buying his albums on CD and tape etc. There are still many of his songs that I like and can't decide which one I like the best because I think they were all good.
There are very few people who hadn't heard of him. Unfortunately I had never been to a concert but liked listening to his songs and those fantastic music videos he did.
The only Michael Jackson album I have got at the moment is Blood on the Dance Floor: History in the Mix which goes back to 1997 and its on tape! Still think his best music was done in the 80's.
To give you an idea which songs I like, here's a shortlist (in no particular order):
Thriller, Earth Song, Heal the World, Bad, Beat it, Billie Jean, Don't stop till you get enough, Black or White, You are not alone, History, Smooth Criminal and many more.

Wanted to put one of his songs from Youtube from his official channel but they can't be viewed on there in the UK so tracked down another one instead. Here is Michael Jackson live in 1996:
May he rest in peace.

Anglo-Dutch Wars, The Great War and The Boer War...all at the same time!
Last Monday there were a nice selection of games going on. I'm saving the Anglo-Dutch Wars till last so you can all those fantastic ships properly.
First up, Boer Wars. Between Mark Alcock (left) as the British and Dave Tuck as the Boers using rules created and developed by both.
The Boer Trenches which the British were slowly making their way up to...
and didn't quite get there before the game finished. These are Mark's British (left). Unfortunately neither side got to see how a firefight at the Boer trenches would have turned out!
Paul Robinson's WW1 Germans attacking the town where Andy Hamilton's British were lurking
As you can see there are 5 Germans attacking this house where there are 2 British in the attic..
2 of Andy Hamilton's British looking out in the town in hard cover..
Anglo-Dutch Wars. All ships in this game belonged to Steve Mercer. Playing with Steve was Mike Barnatt.
Some of the Dutch fleet.
Close up of some Dutch ships.
These English ships are new. Steve had not long finished them.
More of the new English fleet.

Wargames 1st June 2009
Plenty of gaming last week:
Andy Hamilton and Steve Mercer were once again playing with their English and Dutch fleets.
Some more of these lovely ships.
WW2 Eastern Front using Blitzkrieg Commander rules. Martin Buck, Dave Hewins, Mike Barnatt and Ron Skeet playing. Forces provided by Ron Skeet and Mike Barnatt.
These Shirtless Germans with their guns belong to Ron Skeet.
Mark Alcock (pictured, left) playing Paul Robinson at WSS. Thats a bemused looking Tony Walmsley in the middle overseeing proceedings.
Mark's Troops.
Paul Robinson's French (on left) which would be the Court of King Louis X1V, the Sun King. Notice the blue flag with the Sun on it.

Wargames at Club 18th May 2009
Not posted from the club for a few weeks. Here is a quick rundown of some of the games from 18th May 2009.
Anglo-Dutch wars. All ships belonging to Andy Hamilton. Playing also were Mike Barnatt and Mal Taylor.
The English Fleet.
Another nice view of the fleet.
Think these chaps are dutch.
Close up of an English ship.
Ro(on left) playing a game of Rapid Fire! with Tim. Rob playing Germans on this game.
Tim's American's about to storm a church. This Rapid Fire! game was not a scenario just simple attack and defend.
The Americans have been engaged in battle...
The Germans march in...
The Shermans go on the attack..
Right into the arms of the waiting Germans...
15mm Colonials. Dave Tuck (with the British) and Dave Hewins (with the Sudanese). The Sudanese were actually on the right in this game.
This Riverboat was handmade by Dave Tuck.
Another view of the boat.
Another one of Dave's homemade boats.
In addition to Dave Tuck, Mark Alcock was playing as the Sudanese.
On top of that Dean Heathcote, with his blog at http://toomuchlead.blogspot.com also paid a visit.
