Website Statistics 2007/2008

Here are the website statistics for the period the Grimsby Wargames Society was good enough to give me a cheque for £44 to contribute towards the cost of the webspace as the society knew I was having financial problems after losing my job.

Recently on 6th December 2009 and at the AGM on 4th January 2010 the Grimsby Wargames Society offered to pay towards the cost of the domain renewal. I have considered this offer and have decided not to take it up as I am sure I can cope with this cost. I previously paid for the cost of the domain renewal in 2008 with my own funds.

Here are the statistics:

Wars of the Roses, Anglo-Dutch Wars and Colonials 1st February 2010

View of the top floor of the Grimsby Wargames Society.

A Wars of the Roses game. Players were Paul Robinson, John Ogden and Mark Alcock. Thats Mark in mid-grin on the right.
A close up of some figures that look strangely like knights to me.

Steve Mercer's Dutch Fleet.

Andy Hamilton's English Fleet.

Colonials: Myself and Dave Hewins were the fuzzie-wuzzies while Tim Smith and Dave Tuck were the British. On this photo some of my fuzzie-wuzzies had gone straight on to attack Tim's soldiers who had only just started moving. However my little band of fuzzie-wuzzies found themselves right in front of one of Tim's field guns.

Here the British move up with their attack and head for us fuzzie-wuzzies. You can see Tim on the left with Dave T minus head on the right.
The objective of this game was for the British to get to the well. They did not and so lost the game just in time for tiffin.

The Colonial game was played using the Black Powder rules from Warlord Games.

Grimsby Magic

Hi,

A few things to say from the club, firstly below is the link for our own ratings table. I've really only included those who have been recently, so if you are planning on coming back to the club you can still be added onto the charts.

The Release Event was sparsley attended but Paul Gabbitas went home with the Ioona, Shield of Emeria Playmat.

The next two weeks events are

Wednesday 17th February    ZEN - WWK - WWK Booster Draft

Wednesday 24th February    Extended

Wednesday  3rd March         ZEN - WWK Sealed

Wednesday 10th March        Standard

Other dates formats to be confirmed and open to suggestions.

Regards,

Poll about Grimsby Wargames Society v2.0

On the right you will notice that I have added a poll. I would be grateful if all readers of this blog, in fact, anyone who has been to the Grimsby Wargames Society website at any time in the past few years would respond to it. Its at http://www.gywargames.co.uk/ Hopefully this poll will lead to a definitive conclusion about the site. To my knowledge no one has ever complained about the site not being updated outside the grimsby wargames society. A member has recently disputed this and claimed that it has not been updated for a long time. I would be interested in what my readers had to say. Thank you.

Rise of the Eldrazi

Good Afternoon,

Well you might now be thinking, OMG Mark is keen as he is already emailing out about the next Magic Set. Well, Wizards have sent me my information through for booking the Pre Release, Release Event etc.

The date for these events would be

Sunday    18th April
Sunday    25th April

Now after the relatively poor attendance at both of the Worldwake Events I am looking for an idea of numbers before I order in stock as this time I seem to be tripping over myself in booster boxes.

I've a couple of weeks before I have to book everything but want to get a better feel than last time though the last two pre releases have seen numbers drop by a third on the day.

Now as a side effect from the last two weekends I have the following for sale.

3 x Worldwake boosters on offer for £10.
3 x Zendikar boosters on for offer for £9.00
1 x Worldwake Intro pack £9.00 each (8 left)
1 z Zendikar Intro Pack £5.00 each (4 left)

Box of Zendikar £80.00 (2 left)
Box of Worldwake £85.00 (1 spare)

2 x packs of 50 Red Ultra Pro Sleeves £4.50

Regards,

Mark

Test Post from Windows Live Writer

Hello all. This is my first test using blogging software called Windows Live Writer. Assuming I can learn how to use this properly this program will be used by me for all my blogs. Blogs! Blogs! I was sure you only had one, you are probably thinking. Ah well you will find out within the next month what I am talking about. Actually the answer is right under your nose somewhere on this blog.

Grimsby Wargames Society Website v3.0 Tease

Will post the photos from last weeks games later. Over the past week been preoccupied with rebuilding and organising Grimsby Wargames Society Website v3.0.

As I would like the new look and layout, plus the way it will be run to be a surprise and it seems that some people are interested in what is going to happen to it, I have decided to give you some information.

This image (left) is not how it will exactly look but its a very close approximation. Of course, there will be loads more stuff on the finished product. I intend the style, down to the colours of the menu at the top and right plus the style of the main articles on the front page to be as you see here. The menu on the left, minus the clubhouse header, will be on the right while the front page itself will be on the left. Hopefully I would be able to reproduce the "Grimsby Wargames Society" header in 3 colours as you see on this image. The plan is to keep all the colours and styles you see here the same on Grimsby Wargames Society Website v3.0. This idea for the design and look was decided by me last year in fact and even told our esteemed club president about it at the time but just never got round to it.
Now here's for some more useful info:

All Grimsby Wargames Society members plus members of the groups who use its facilities - as they are best placed to talk about them, using them all the time - to contribute is 2 logons. 1 Logon will be required to upload photos to a special photo group that has just been set up by me and another one to logon to the site itself and publish articles themselves, without any help from me unless they get stuck, including being able to publish photos directly onto the frontpage if they wish though I would have to limit the amount people put on to save webspace. The vast majority of photos will be hosted offsite.

However, my plans have recently been modified and the new version will be far superior to what you see here. It will be superior to all past reincarnations of the site. Started adding content to v3.0 yesterday with a page on club membership fees. At this moment in time the main menu structure plus sub-pages has been created with 15 static pages made with a possible 7 more static pages to be added for links pages plus something else fun I got in mind. The main menu consists of 8 main pages. It should be easy to navigate and will also be easier for me to maintain and add items if needs be.

More importantly, for me anyway, v3.0 will NOT be hosted on my other computer anymore. The domain http://www.gywargames.co.uk/ will continue to be used with it. There are no hosting costs involved either. There are a few other small costs involved but think that even I can take care of those even in my present financial situation. Those costs will only help me enhance the site anyway.

A screenshot of the near completed site will be published here closer to the time the domain switches over to it. Below is a shot of the same design with a mouseover effect on the main menu:

Worldwake Release Event

Hi,

Well the Pre Release has come and gone .. our eventual winner on Tie Breakers was Tom Duignan narrowly edging out Sam Engledow.

So we still have the Iona, Shield of Emeria playmat up for grabs for first place this Sunday.

Entry is £22 inc subs for 3 x Zendikar and 3 x Worldwake boosters.

I have plenty of space in the event and if you missed out last week through illness etc now is a great chance to see the full set in all its pomp and glory.

Email me back to reserve your space.

I have some Zendikar Intro packs which I am looking to sell off @ £5.00 each and that includes the booster inside them.

I still have several Worldwake Intropacks at £9.00 each

Regards,

Mark

Latest Website Update: Re-Updates

Updated on Monday 1st February 2010. Changed front page to one of Martin Buck's photos.

Added a link to the post on this blog so that website viewers can see all the photos by Martin.

Then added the line where it states that Newcomers to the Grimsby Wargames Society get their first 3 visits free aka do not have to pay any subs.

More Battle of Arracourt photos by Martin Buck

The captions and photos below are all by Grimsby Wargames Society member Martin Buck. Used by kind permission of Martin Buck. These are all from the Battle of Arracourt game at the Grimsby Wargames Society on 18th January 2010. All the photos below will also be turned into a Picasa gallery on the newly revamped website when it is done. Thank you Martin for your contribution.

Wargames at Club 25th January 2010

A couple of games for that night. Unfortunately I arrived too late to join in one of the games. My own fault. Will join in next time. Haha!!

A Napoleonic game between Mark Alcock (army on the right) and John Ogden. My digital camera had died at the time so took this photo and the one below with my Nokia 6303.

Another shot of the table. Sorry as the pics are a little darker than normal.

Taken with my digital camera. A shot of Andy Hamilton's British WW1 figures. Andy was playing a game against Paul Robinson's Germans.

Paul Robinson's Germans. Unfortunately Paul wasnt feeling too good so he left early.
A game between the Romans and Barbarians. Playing in it were Dave Tuck, Ashley, Ron Skeet and Mal Johnston. Each side had an objective....
The objective for the Barbarians, sorry, Germans.
The objective for the Romans. A concubine is, of course, always extremely important. In a wagon train full of supplies, she will make sure you get your oats.

Malburians and The Battle of Arracourt, 18th January 2010

On 18th January 2010 the Austrians and British fought it out in a large scale battle on our big table downstairs. The battle was fought in the Malburian period. Funny, you say I thought it was 2010.

Mark Alcock was the English and Andy Hamilton was the Austrians.

A Melee between the Austrians and English.

A view down the Battlefield.

A close up of some of Andy Hamilton's fantastic looking Austrians. I am also using this photo for my blogger profile at the moment.

The English won this game eventually.

A World War 2 game using Blitzkrieg Commander rules using a Rapid Fire! scenario.  The scenario in question was the Battle of Arracourt from the Northwest Europe Rapid Fire! scenario book (the green one).

Playing in it were Dave Tuck, Martin Buck and Tim Mercer.

The Battle of Arracourt took place in Lorraine, France, during September 18–29, 1944.
